Van Bennekom, the artistic name of Dutch photographer Frank van Bennekom, has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in analog photography, architecture, travel, beauty and contemporary lifestyle. Originally trained as an architect, Van Bennekom brings a strong sense of composition, structure and space to his photographic work.
Based in Amsterdam, Van Bennekom works primarily with analog cameras and soft colour film, creating images characterised by a cinematic atmosphere, grainy textures and a nostalgic sensibility. His photographs often explore sun-drenched landscapes, empty roads, architecture, classic automobiles and human presence, creating a visual world that feels both timeless and evocative.
His photographic practice developed through travel, with projects exploring ideas of freedom, escapism and the relationship between people and their surroundings. His acclaimed series Lost Away, photographed between 2015 and 2017 across Australia, Hawaii and South Africa, examines the desire to leave, disappear and reconnect with a sense of inner freedom. The series is defined by soft colour film, vintage cameras and a distinctly nostalgic aesthetic.
Van Bennekom's work also extends into fashion, lifestyle, architecture and design. His characteristic analog style has been used in editorial and commercial projects, where his cinematic approach creates a strong dialogue between architecture, objects, landscapes and contemporary fashion.
His publishing practice includes PRIVADOS Magazine, released in 2023 as an edition of 250, and INVADOS, his 2026 photography book, also produced as a limited edition of 250 copies. INVADOS was presented alongside an exhibition at Soleille Gallery during Can Art Fair in Ibiza, with the book launch taking place at Soho Farmhouse.
